I was recently sent a few of their healthy products to try out including their yeast and gluten free seeded bread mix. I had plans to cook a classic Canarian stew for Sunday dinner and decided that instead of serving a buttered French baguette to accompany the stew, I would put the seeded bread mix to the test.
The packet claims that the bread is ready to bake in just two minutes and I have to say that I was sceptical but after beating an egg with some milk and a little vegetable oil before mixing in the contents of the packet, I was ready to fire my loaf tin into the oven.
45 minutes later I had a golden brown, crispy topped loaf that looked the part. My only comment at this point was that the kitchen didn't fill with the smell of freshly baked bread - maybe that's the trade off for not using wheat?
Once the freshly baked bread had cooled a little, I was able to slice and butter just in time to serve alongside my Ropa Vieja.
The main ingredients of the seeded bread are potato starch, rice flour and flaxseed flour making the bread gluten free while the added linseed, sunflower seeds and pumpkins seeds result in a bread that is high in natural fibre. I've tried a few gluten free breads and always felt that they were missing something. Obviously, they were but Helen's seeded bread actually tasted like real bread and I can honestly say that if I didn't know that it was gluten free, I would never have guessed.
In addition to the wheat and gluten free bread that I tried out, the Helen's range includes breakfast seed toppings and protein crunch mixes, as well as some cake and dessert mixes too and because the mixes take so little time to prepare, you'll have more time to do the things you enjoy.
