Sushi Burrito; part sushi, part burrito, freshly rolled with your choice of filling: think BBQ eel, teriyaki chicken to salmon – the possibilities are endless – along with sliced avocado, cod roe, crispy onions and sushi rice, wrapped in a thin layer of seaweed. It’s one of the biggest healthy food trends for 2017 and now available in Glasgow at new restaurant, Temaki, which launched today (Friday, 13 January) on Hope Street.
Demand has soared for the healthy dish with over 2,500 Sushi burritos already been sold at the restaurant since it opened doors mid-December as Glasgow flocks to try this healthy food trend.
Temaki - a Japanese and Korean fusion 25 seater restaurant, blends world-inspired street food flavours that are found in New York, using locally-sourced Scottish seafood and produce cooked by authentic Japanese chefs right in the heart of Glasgow’s city centre.
Located directly across from Grand Central Hotel, the casual dining restaurant inhabits a forgotten building, formally a hotel from yesteryear with original cornicing adorning the ceiling, alongside the grandeur shell remains of an old revolving door and supporting pillars.
Bright distressed wood panelling, long mirrors and lanterns light the way to the exposed kitchen where you can witness the deft skills of chefs creating innovative sushi creations, warming broths, flavoursome ramens and hot rice dishes, seven days a week.
The kitchen is clad in coloured corrugated iron to complement the stainless steel open plan kitchen environment. Vintage crates and oil-paper Japanese umbrellas add to the quirky and quaint place while aged wooden chairs and long tables provide the backdrop for the dining.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the concept, Temaki Owner, Kasia Koziel said: “The idea for Temaki came from my wanderlust for New York and San Francisco. Travelling around the States sampling the best Far Eastern street food – healthy, tasty and so utterly delicious. As soon as I tasted a Sushi Burrito I knew that I wanted to bring that Japanese, Mexican fusion to Glasgow with a side of incredible and authentic street tastes. “You don’t need to scrimp on flavour for nutritious dishes and our food offer is perfect whether you are health conscious or if you’re looking for a true taste of Japanese street food.”
Temaki restaurant serves Japanese street food, from noodles, rice to bento boxes, seven days a week from 12 noon to 11pm. Dishes are available to sit in, takeaway or for home delivery.
