Product Review - The Dubliner Irish Whiskey Liqueur

Dubliner Whiskey, Whiskey Liqueur, Dubliner Whiskey Liqueur, honeycomb, Gerry's Kitchen, product review
After a busy city break to London I was looking forward to getting back to work last week however due to a ridiculously heavy cold, I never lasted the week and spent the bulk of last week at home on the sofa feeling sorry for myself.
Just before I made my excuses and left the office, I received a parcel from Quintessential Brands containing a bottle of The Dubliner Irish Whiskey and The Dubliner Irish Whisky Liqueur. I'm not sure if they knew that I was feeling under the weather but I was grateful for the essential ingredient needed for a wee 'hot toddy'.

The Dubliner Irish Whiskey is a blend of single malt and grain whiskey, fully aged in bourbon casks and bottled at 40% abv. The Dubliner is a classic style Irish whiskey – smooth, and fresh, with a mellow sweetness coming from the Bourbon casks. The Dubliner Whiskey and Honeycomb is made from a base of Irish whiskey blended with honeycomb and caramel, for a smooth sweet finish and bottled at 30% abv.

Hopeful that the warming notes of honeycomb and caramel would help ease my aching throat, I cracked open The Dubliner Whiskey Liqueur and poured myself a generous measure over ice. As I swirled the golden liquid around, aromas of burnt sugar and vanilla rose from the glass whilst there was almost nothing on the nose that hints towards a whiskey based drink. The Dubliner Whiskey Liqueur is very smooth and goes down easily although it is very sweet to taste. Again, the burnt sugar notes from the honeycomb are easy to identify, so much so that I struggled to detect any obvious whiskey flavour. This is definitely a drink for the sweet-toothed which suits me just fine. My only concern is that with so much sweetness masking the taste of whiskey, you might forget that you're drinking a liqueur that packs a 30% ABV punch.
On a plus note, I think it did help ease the pain in my sore throat!
Would this stop me ordering The Dubliner Whiskey Liqueur if I spotted it in a bar or restaurant? Absolutely not! With my sweet tooth, the liqueur would be great poured over rich vanilla ice-cream for a boozy pudding, or even better in a variation of the classic Irish coffee.

The Dubliner Whiskey Liqueur sells for £22.50 for a 70cl bottle and can be bought online at www.31Dover.com, www.thewhiskyexchange.com, Royal Mile Whiskies and www.bringabottle.co.uk.
