Sushi & Japanese Street Food YO! To Open New Glasgow Central Flagship

Commitment to the city and to Scotland reinforced as iconic brand celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2017

GLASGOW, June, 2017 – YO!, the UK’s most famed Japanese food operator, is returning to Glasgow city centre with a new flagship 72-cover restaurant launching Thursday 29th June.

Located at 85 West George Street, the wildly popular brand will open the doors to YO! GLASGOW CENTRAL in a historic listed building on one of the city’s most prominent corner sites, positioned on a prime apex of the golden ‘z’ adjacent to Buchanan Street, in what promises to be a hugely welcome return to the heart of Scotland’s largest city.

Culinary pleasure seekers can expect a perfect mix of YO! classics and newly curated dishes at YO! GLASGOW CENTRAL including hot favourites such as Katsu Curry, Ramen & Miso, Yakisoba, Chahan, Teriyaki, Gyoza and Tempura, and delicious hand made cold Nigiri, Temaki, Sashimi, Rolls and Fresh Salads. What’s more, in keeping with Glasgow’s ‘UK’s Most Vegan Friendly City’ status there are an impressive 16 vegan and 33 vegetarian dishes.

To demonstrate its commitment to Scotland, YO! is delighted to be working with Scottish suppliers to source the best quality salmon fresh from the country’s shores. From July 2017 only Scottish salmon will be served in YO!’s 78 restaurants across the UK.

YO! is one of the only high street restaurants that freshly prepares its dishes on site, in open kitchens, and YO! GLASGOW CENTRAL will be a striking scene in which to enjoy its carefully curated menu.

With its instantly recognisable bold orange YO! branding – a full circle revert, in this landmark 20th year, to the original design of 1997 which featured the simple one word as the brand’s identity – YO! GLASGOW CENTRAL arrives high on cutting edge aesthetics.

Set within a prominent historic listed building, YO! GLASGOW CENTRAL retains, and indeed showcases, much of the original cast iron frames, both internally and externally. A striking new glass facade will overlook the bustling hub of Nelson Mandela Place along with a further glass impression running the length of the building on the West George Street adjacency, and leading to a bright welcoming main entrance.

Inside, YO!’s legendary Kaiten belt will frame the central theatre kitchen and snake around the entire restaurant, allowing customers to grab the fresh dishes from every seat. Elsewhere, standout design features carrying distinct Japanese references include a stunning Origami-inspired ceiling as well as ‘Shoji’ screen-inspired cladding to the internally illuminated belt.

A new To Go menu will also be available in YO! GLASGOW CENTRAL across both hot and cold dishes.

Commenting on the opening of Glasgow Central, YO! CEO, Robin Rowland OBE said,

“We are thrilled to confirm YO! is returning to Glasgow city centre.“

“More details will be revealed very soon but YO! fans can expect to enjoy exciting new food offerings, as well as all their popular favourites, enjoyed off YO!’s legendary signature conveyor belt, and set against a cutting-edge restaurant interior.

“YO! Glasgow Central will be a fitting statement for a city we have a fantastic history with, and we can’t wait to open our doors to customers on the 29th of June.”

• Founded in 1997, YO! was the first to bring the concept of a Japanese ‘kaiten’ sushi bar that delivered food via a conveyor belt to the UK.

• From July 2017, YO! will reinforce its commitment to Scotland by using only fresh Scottish salmon from reputable suppliers. These suppliers share the same concerns with regards to environmental issues and sustainability of at-risk species through over fishing and the subsequent depletion of certain fish.

• 2017 sees the restaurant group expand further into Glasgow, London, Canterbury, Worcester and New York.

• YO! serves over 6 million UK customers a year.

• YO! dishes are freshly prepared in its restaurants daily.

• YO! is the proud winner of the Best Vegan Curry category for its Tofu Katsu Curry at the PETA Vegan Food Awards 2015.

• YO! is privately owned by Mayfair Equity Partners and the YO! senior UK management team, which is led by Robin Rowland OBE.
