Triple Tangerine Dream as Pickled Ginger Turns Two

Triple Tangerine Dream as Pickled Ginger Turns Two with a Tasting Menu, Ginger Cocktails and Ginger Party
Turning Japanese, Turning Japanese, I really think so…
Ginger cocktails and ginger dishes are on the cards this Thursday in the West End as Pickled Ginger restaurant celebrates its second anniversary with a Japanese ten dish tasting menu and masterclasses with Nikka Whisky.

From 6pm until late on Thursday, 22nd June, the restaurant has drawn inspiration from Tokyo to Osaka to craft a menu that celebrates Eastern culture and customer favourites since they opened their doors to Glasgow two years ago.

For £20pp, the tasting menu includes a selection of ten dishes including homemade pork gyoza dumplings, Yaki Sake - marinated Scottish salmon cuts in a Japanese fusion of spices and soy, and the traditional marinated sizzling beef and vegetables, with steamed rice, lettuce wraps, and Korean barbeque sauce.

Sushi lovers can take delight in the head chefs showcase selection which puts the spotlight on their most popular sushi – from their epic and Instagrammable volcano rolls, tasty spicy tuna, delicious smoked salmon and cream cheese. The menu also includes a cocktail made with Japanese whisky, Nikka whisky from the barrel, lemongrass, then finished and topped with the nation’s favourite ginger – Irn Bru. This will complement a refreshing and artful dessert of mango mochi.

Diners can also explore tastings with Nikka Whisky as the Speciality Brands ambassador, will be sharing the Nikka heritage from founder Masataka Taketsuru’ time at Glasgow University to setting up the first whisky distillery in Japan.

The tastings complement the impressive and somewhat rare selection of oriental whiskies available from the Pickled Ginger bar.

Speaking of the event, general manager Ross Smyth said

“Pickled Ginger is a vibrant, relaxed restaurant and bar where you can sample a real flavour of the Orient.

“We’ve been slowly building our Japanese collection of whiskies, spirits and cocktails and we’re going to be unveiling some new sips for our customers to sample.

“The tasting menu has an influence of Korean and Japanese dishes and we wanted to mark our birthday by letting our customers enjoy our bestselling dishes and drinks at a very special rate. It’s brilliant value and a great way for anyone who hasn’t been to Pickled Ginger before to try our delicious food and join in our birthday celebrations!”
