Hard Rock Cafe to Celebrate 'Freddie for a Day'

In Celebration of Rock Legend Freddie Mercury’s Birthday, staff at Hard Rock Cafe Glasgow will be dusting down their catsuits and donning fake moustaches to become Freddie For A Day on Tuesday 5 September 2017. This annual celebration of the rock legend’s life aims to raise funds and awareness for the Mercury Phoenix Trust and the fight against AIDS and HIV.
Freddie For A Day, now in its seventh year, is a fundraising initiative through the Mercury Phoenix Trust which encourages friends and fans around the world to spend the day dressed as the one-and-only Freddie Mercury on what would have been his 71st birthday.
2017 sees Hard Rock Cafe celebrate its fifth year working together with The Mercury Phoenix Trust. European Marketing Manager for Hard Rock International, Teresa Spaventa said: “Hard Rock International is honoured to work alongside Queen and The Mercury Phoenix Trust each year for the annual Freddie For A Day celebration. Hard Rock has a longstanding relationship with the rock icons and their charity. Each Hard Rock Cafe across Europe will be encouraging local Freddie fans to visit dressed up as the legend and raise money and awareness for this incredible cause.”
For one day only Hard Rock Cafe Glasgow invite customers and staff to join the Freddie party with Queen music throughout the day and from 6.45pm enjoy acoustic live performances of Queen songs and more. In honour of the occasion, a very special Tandoori Chicken Burger will guest star for one day only. The burger, created by Hard Rock Cafe Mumbai, pays homage to the Indian city in which Freddie spent part of his childhood. As an extra treat, ‘Flash Your ID Gordon’ is a special offer for all those whose first name is Gordon. Hard Rock Cafe Glasgow will be giving away a free Legendary burger to those named Gordon when another adult main is purchased*.
Diners have the chance to win prizes and purchase a special Freddie moustache, with proceeds going to The Mercury Phoenix Trust. Additionally, all Hard Rock Original Legendary Burgers ordered on 5 September will be served up with a special Freddie moustache on top!
Emma Donoghue from the Mercury Phoenix Trust adds: "Freddie For A Day and the Hard Rock Cafe is a great marriage for us and we’re celebrating our fifth anniversary of working together! September 5th would not be the same without them. We are always truly touched by the effort that the Hard Rock give to Freddie’s birthday each year. The fun, the food, the donations and awareness that they have given The Mercury Phoenix Trust since 2013 has been priceless www.mercuryphoenixtrust.com"
Claudia Walker of the Mercury Phoenix Trust said: "Freddie For A Day is a global AIDS fundraising and awareness campaign, enabling fans around the world to help the Trust in its work and have fun whilst doing so. Our partnership with the Hard Rock Cafe will further raise the profile of Freddie For A Day as we join forces in many cities to celebrate Freddie's life and help those less fortunate to fight this terrible disease which ended his life.
