Beers of Euro 2016 - #7.2 Spain, Soy Rodriguez by Edge Brewing

Despite selecting Moritz Epidor as my original Spanish beer choice for my #beersofeuro2016 campaign weeks ago, I ended up buying another Spanish beer, Soy Rodriguez by Edge Brewing, after visiting my local Whole Foods Market in Giffnock. I sourced most of my beers from online beer merchant Beers of Europe but had I known just how good a selection of beers that Whole Foods Market had on their shelves, I would have started there first and used the internet as a last resort.

Spain were drawn in Group D alongside Turkey, Croatia and the Czech Republic.

As mentioned above, I sourced my Soy Rodriguez from Whole Foods Market Giffnock for £2.19

Edge Brewing was founded by two Americans who wanted to bring the craft beer revolution to Barcelona. Using American equipment, ingredients and know-how, Edge produces fresh American craft beer for one of the most exciting cities in Europe. Their goal is to make beer that makes a difference in a market that is just discovering there’s an alternative to factory-produced commercial lager.

Soy Rodriguez pours dark amber colour with a little cloudiness in the glass. A soft foamy head hung around throughout, leaving a little lacing around the glass. Aromas of pepper and star anise are joined by rye bread and floral hoppy notes. The beer is very complex, initially sweet to taste with coffee and caramel flavours making way to toasted malt before a bittersweet finish. Soy Rodriguez is a very much my kind of beer and definitely one that I'll be looking our for on my travels to Spain in the future. I'll also be popping back to Whole Foods Market to stock on Soy Rodriguez as well as some of the other beers from the Edge Brewing range.

Keep an eye on the rest of my challenge and feel free to share your own beers of Euro2016 on Twitter using the hashtag #beersofeuro2016
